Reading habit, in addition to reading skill, is crucial for all kinds of library users, if they want to be successful readers. The condition of low interest in reading among users has been a major issue that needs a creative follow-up from the librarian and other library staff. This study is an attempt to investigate the reading habit during the COVID-19 pandemic period. In this study, the survey method has been used. The purpose of data collection from the respondents is to know the reading interest & time spend on reading. For data collection google form and the google form links were shared through WhatsApp and Telegram to various groups. 405 readers have participated in this survey. The findings show that the majority of the readers had preferred to choose all types of reading materials like; printed, digital or electronic resources. Whatsapp is the more comfortable social media during the COVID-19 pandemic period.
User Education Programs in academic libraries creates an awareness of all library resources, services and facilities among users. In this current pandemic situation, Library and Information centers are going through the challenging phase to reach each and every users and satisfy their needs. Covid -19 shut down the physical access of the library. To resolve the problems of users and creates connectivity between user and library, S.M.R.K.-B.K.A.K. Mahila Mahavidyalaya, Nashik-5 has initiated to conduct an Online User Education Program. Under this User Education Program, five days online lecture series were carried out for each class. Virtual tour was conducted to show the accessibility of all the digital facilities. The target audiences were all the final year students of all streams. Total attendees were 194 for the session. The methodology adopted for the study was descriptive survey research. Online questionnaire (created by using Google Forms) prepared and distributed among participants.
From a humble beginning in 2002, Guru Nanak Institute of Management Studies (GNIMS) has grown into a completely integrated management school. The vision of the school has been “to provide innovative, relevant and intellectual stimulating management education while encouraging critical reflection and creativity”. We have been living up to our vision ever since by fostering favorable learning atmosphere and able academic leadership in the school. We are equipped with good infrastructure and have a strategic location too.
The study aims to explore the attitude of Science faculty members towards Open access publishing in the Universities of Karnataka. The study also attempted to identify the reasons for publishing as well as not publishing articles on Open access platforms. Further, attempts were made to trace out the problems faced by the faculty members publishing their articles on Open access platforms. A questionnaire was used to collect the data. The result of the study reveals that nearly half of the Science faculty members show interest in publishing in Open access platforms. The study also depicts that (76%) of the faculty members opined that Open access platforms have no peer-review process. Most of the faculty opined that the fee was paid by the main author and coauthor to publish research articles. The result reflects that no state university allotted funds to publish research articles in Open access journals.
In this paper, I share the varied experience of libraries during the volume of the COVID pandemic situation since early March 20. Due to Coronavirus disease, challenges are created to all or any experts and staff of the information institutes. Regular library services are not meeting the requirements of its end-users in the pandemic condition. Various information gateways with suitable information and knowledge for conducting research and development on the subjects such as Medical science, Technology, Chemistry, and educations, etc. Here I have focused on how to provide the information services using various technological advancements and preventive measures taken to reinforce the knowledge of the whole community in their scholarly endeavors. Many major publishers have provided free medical and virus-related reference tools for research, and libraries have worked out how to reach those readers.
Social sites like Facebook, Wikis, LinkedIn, Blogging, YouTube, and online groups are playing a very significant role in providing effective library services and fulfilling the growing and changing information needs of the users. The use of social media is important for online users for distance learning and knowledge sharing. Some of the limitations for using social media in libraries are lack of training and proper knowledge, identity theft, slow speed of internet, electricity fluctuations, etc. The results of this study will allow the Library and Information Science professionals to know the effectiveness of the available social media tools and areas of their use for promoting the library services and resources. This paper examines the role, impact, and how social networking sites help provide effective and efficient library services in the light of limited library resources.
On the backdrop of COVID-19 pandemic there is a need for providing unique Online Library Services so as to enhance the usage of library resources among all its users. The present study is focused on to assess the reading habits of business magazines among the ‘B’ School Students and to study its impact on their placement opportunities and enhancing their overall decision-making skills. This study investigates the reading habits of the business magazine among the ‘B’ School Students, through a structured questionnaire. The purpose of this study is to know the ‘B’ School Students’ response about different aspects of reading habits of business magazines. The data obtained from the present study are summarised and presented in the form of table and charts for drawing the final interpretation.
In this Electronic Era, online education, and online resources are important aspects of an educational system. This Pandemic situation has made online education a vital part of the education system. The library always supports the teaching-learning process by providing various resources in various forms. In this pandemic situation, the library of JDC Bytco Institute of Management Studies and Research, Nashik has initiated to conduct an online session to create awareness of online resources available in the open access domain. This paper reflects and discusses the activity conducted for the faculty members during this pandemic situation. An online session covered basic four categories as Open Access Resources (E-Books, E-Journals, E-databases), Digital Libraries, Institutional Repositories and Open Course wares i.e. MOOCs. Orientation with the practical demonstration was given in the session and participant feedback is reported in this paper
